Stroud League Division 3 Trident 3 vs. Kingswood Reserves 5 Kingswood Reserves had to dig deep to overcome a significant test away from home to title rivals Trident. On a wet but very playable surface the home side played with the elements on their back in the first half and set about taking advantage of this as early as the 4th minute as Steve Harvey was muscled out of a one on one breakaway with Lee Burbery to open the scoring past the advancing Chris Shaw.
Kingswood would learn lot about the pace and power of Burbery in this match as he became the home talisman. With 15 minutes on the clock Burbery again latched onto a long free kick to loo his header over the Shaw in the box for a 2 - 0 scoreline. The advice from the experience within visitors set up was not to panic, and it took the youngest player to heed this, as Gary Simmons grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck with an exchange of passes with Dan Griffiths on the angle of the box before placing an unstoppable shot to the far corner of the trident net to get his side back in the game.
Simmons continued to torment the home side throughout the half with his pace and vision, and also to cover his opposing player with some fine defensive work in his own box also.
At the break, Scott Harvey and his management team set about praising the positives and underlining the frailties within his teams make up, all of which were taken on board very quickly as Kingswood were able to get back on level terms within 60 seconds of the re start as Berry set up an interchange of passes between Higgins and Griffiths, to allow Griths to pick his spot for 2-2.
On 55 minutes Anthony Spill won a great header in the midfield to set up the advancing Griffiths to slot past Tiny Keyper to give the visitors the lead for the first time at 3-2. A lead short lived, as Burbery completed his hat trick as the referee adjudged what appeared a hand control to continue for Burbery to score past Shaw to level once again. Paul Spill delivered the perfect corner for Dan Griffiths to head home his third at the far post to gain an away advantage again, and as the game began to get away from the referee it took some experienced heads to see Kingswood home as one or two of the home side degenerated into physical violence in an attempt to get something from the game. Paul Boeater slotted the vital fifth goal with minutes to spare at the end of the game to defuse the potent force of the home side and to the obvious celebrations of his own side.
Manager Scott Harvey commented: " We were certainly put to the sword in this game at times, and it took us some time to get to grips with their striker who had the pace and power to disrupt us, but we came through as a group and I look forward to next week's game."
