Sharks through to quarter finals GFA North Senior Amateur Cup Round Three Longlevens 1 Sharpness 1 (Sharpness won 4 - 2 on penalties) Sharpness made it through to the quarter finals after a hard-fought cup tie against Longlevens.
With the Vale of Berkeley College pitch underwater the tie was switched to Longlevens.
The Sharks made the best possible start by taking an early lead, Tom Paterson crossed from the left for a not fully fit Mike Sherman to head wide of the keeper for his first goal of the season.
Ian Watkins was denied shortly after a good stop by the home keeper.
However, against the run of play Longlevens equalised from a corner. After blocking the first shot Nick Grove could do little to prevent the follow-up that sneaked into the left corner.
Longlevens finished the half the stronger and from another corner Grove made a point blank save that came off hand then knee to keep the Sharks level.
The second half saw the Sharks have good possession but not capitalising, and were very nearly caught on the break twice but Grove made two good stops.
Brad Thomas fired over from 20 yards and that was the closest any team came.
With the pitch getting worse the game slowed and turned scrappy.
With time up and the light fading referee Lloyd Pennington, with the agreement of both managers, decided to play 10 minutes each way extra time, with little goalmouth action due to some excellent defending by both sides.
It was left to penalties to decide the result.
Thomas slotted home his kick for 1-0. Longlevens' David Gibbs responded but his kick was superbly saved by Grove to his right.
Matt Frankham made it 2-0, then Longlevens scored their first for 2-1. Dave Nash made it 3-1 and Longlevens then hit the post to swing the game Sharpness' way.
However, Luke Palmer saw his kick saved and Longlevens scored to make it 3-2. It was left to Paterson to see the Sharks through and after a long run up he fired home to send the Sharks through to play Broadwell at home in the quarters.
