Reserves through to semi-finals County Cup Tivoli Rovers 1 Kingswood Reserves 3 KINGSWOOD'S Reserves travelled to Cheltenham to face their quarter-final opponents, who clearly had indulged far less than the visitors over the Christmas break, as Kingswood were slow to get into the game.
The first period lacked any cohesion in either side's play, with half chances falling at either end.
The home outfit set their game plan out early on, which was around the more physical aspects of the game, with hefty challenges raining in on a Kingswood side, who were looking lethargic.
The game was really brought to life in the dying seconds of the half, when Tivoli scored.
Manager Scott Harvey set about his side at the break, and the evidence was there to be seen in the second period. Wide man Gary Simmons equalised after a more direct style of running paid dividends, before he shot past the advancing keeper.
It was Simmons again who forced an own goal when a Tivoli player miskicked at the far post as Jim Crossfield put him under pressure.
The referee was kept busy as further bookings were taken against the home side, five in all as the game upped in passion once more, but it was substitute Scott Harvey himself who settled the game as a jinking run close to the bye line was crudely stopped and the resultant penalty converted by Tom Higgins, albeit at the second attempt.
Kingswood can enjoy the fact that they once more have a County Cup semi final to look forward to, but they will have to sharpen up their individual performances if they are to reach their goal of a second successive County Cup final appearance.
