Hockey Thornbury 2, Chippenham 3 THORNBURY recovered from 3-0 down to come within a goal of gaining a draw with visiting Chippenham.
Thornbury gave a first team debut to promising keeper Lottie Maiden and the move worked well as the youngster made a number of fine saves. Sarah Stewart and Sam Anderton also acquitted themselves well on their senior debuts for the season.
The Thornbury goals were scored by Lizzie McManaman and Kim Alexander who scored with a powerful shot to grab her first goal for some time.
Thornbury seconds' match at Chippenham was cancelled, the home pitch being unfit, and the thirds lost a close game against Wotton-under-Edge.
On Saturday league action resumes, the first team entertain BAC (3.30pm), the seconds visit Old Georgians and the thirds host North Somerset II (12.15pm), both home matches at Castle School.
