Crewe first team coach Steve Holland is confident Forest Green's Stuart Fleetwood will sign on the dotted line as the nation's leading striker travelled to Cheshire today.
Holland said: "The revised offer included a couple of add ons and it has been lodged for a while now. We have to talk to him and see if we can take it to the next stage. We are pleased to make progress.
"This is a major step forward. There's always a risk unless the player is tried and trusted at the level you are playing at. Those players are very difficult for us to sign. But he has been prolific this season at what is a very high standard of football.
advertisement He isn't the target man we want, but he is in our range and gettable, and would improve the squad. He plays off the shoulder, threatens the back, is strong and sharp and is a good finisher."
