STUART Fleetwood has turned down a move to Crewe Alexandra and insisted: "I'm going nowhere."

The prolific Forest Green striker, who has scored an incredible 30 goals in all competitions this season, looked set to make the move to Gresty Road after the two clubs agreed a fee believed to be around £175,000.

The 21-year-old discussed personal terms with the League One Club but after discussing the move over with his family and his agent, decided to stay at the New Lawn and help the team reach the Blue Square Premier play-offs.

Several clubs have been watching Fleetwood's progress this season including Championship clubs Charlton Athletic, Norwich City, and Plymouth Argyle, but he insisted that he will not be moving in the January transfer window even if those clubs make a bid.

"Obviously I have been kept informed by the club of all the interest shown and I can honestly state that even if any other clubs come in with a late bid before the transfer window closes, I am not interested.

"The summer may be a different matter but I owe a debt of gratitude to the gaffer (Jim Harvey). At a time when many thought my career had ended, he had faith in me and I love the way he has the lads playing and that has helped me tremendously.

"Everyone at Rovers has made us so welcome from the Boardroom to the supporters on the terraces. My mother in particular has a genuine affection for the club and everyone she meets each match day.

"The club is now part of my family as well and I am committed with my team mates to making this the best season that the club have experienced in their history."

Had the deal gone through it would have represented a massive profit for Rovers, who snapped up Fleetwood on a free transfer in the summer from Hereford United.

Rovers will now be hoping he can continue his goal scoring form for the rest of the season and fire them to promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history, which could see the club net a windfall of around £500,000.

Boss Jim Harvey was delighted when he received a late call from Fleetwood last night to pledge himself to the club.

"Whilst neither the Board nor myself, would ever stand in the way of any player progressing up the football ladder," he said.

"On this occasion we may have missed out on a massive windfall, but it shows how genuine Stuart is, and knowing the lad as I do, I know his word is his bond."
