NEWENT TOWN 3 DURSLEY TOWN 2 After the weather of late it was a glorious spring like sunny afternoon that greeted these two sides for this Division one encounter.
After their glorious result last weekend it was the visitors who made the early running and took the lead early when centre forward Stacey Miles collected a ball on the edge of the box and coolly flicked it over the advancing home keeper for her second goal in consecutive games.
After this though Newent stepped up their game obviously smarting from their 6-0 mauling at the hands of Cam last weekend as they scored two quick goals to end the half on top.
The game in the second half was more even with both sides creating and squandering chances.
Dursley thought they had equalised through substitute Chanelle Trinder only for the referee to disallow a goal after a lengthy consultation with the linesman.
However it was Newent wrapped the game up midway through the second half with their third goal.
Dursley went straight up the other end and conjured up a goal from a corner, after the ball was helped into the net by a home defender.
Dursley battled for an equaliser against an increasingly physical home side and nearly brought parity to the scoreline when Lianne Rickaby produced a dangerous cross-shot that eluded the keeper and bounced back off the post.
Manager Neale Humble's comments said: "Any side is dangerous in their next game following a 6-0 thrashing and so it proved today.
"Strangely our early goal did not deflate them as I expected but instead seemed to nourish them like Popeye's spinach.
"Ironically by scoring first so early was perhaps the worst thing we could have done.
On a positive note our continued desire to battle right to the end was indeed most gratifying".
lNext game Home v Bitton League Cup february 3, kick-off 2pm.
