IT was another full weekend of action for Yate Hockey Club, with mixed fortunes for the teams on Saturday.
There was a cold start to the Saturday morning for Yate Men 1s away to UWE.
Yate started the stronger having good early possession but they were unable to make it count.
UWE started to grow into the game, utilising their pace up front to get shots away, but Alex Gardener pulled off some great feet saves to deny. The game moved into both teams throwing counterpunches until UWE broke the deadlock just before half-time after a short corner broke down and they reacted the quicker to flick in.
The second half started brightly with Yate making the UWE keeper pull off some excellent saves, and finally Yate got one back after Josh Whittle's strike found the top right corner.
Shortly after Yate found themselves down a player for a questionable decision and UWE capitalised with two quick goals.
Yate rallied for the last 10 minutes and threw everything at UWE. Danny Pearce venturing further forward popped up in the D and a nice strike brought the draw within touching distance before they found the leveller late on.
Elsewhere, Yate Men 2s drew 0-0 with Cardiff Medics 2s and Yate Ladies suffered an 8-0 defeat.
Having secured the league title last week, Yate Ladies 2s didn’t let up when they hosted South Gloucestershire 1.
Sally Thomas-Ellis opened the scoring for Yate before player of the match Kim Harris scored the next four goals, including an excellent volley. Jeanette Seavill scored Yate’s final goal from a penalty corner to finish off a comfortable 6-1 win for Yate.
And finally, Yate Ladies 3s won 3-1 at South Gloucestershire 2s.
