IT was a hat-trick of wins for the women's teams at Yate Hockey Club last weekend.
The first team enjoyed a 6-2 victory over Bath Buccs 3s in front of the watching crowd, whilst the seconds thrashed Dursley 6-0 and the thirds edged a 1-0 win over Badminton and Pucklechurch.
As for the men, the first team had a weekend off whilst the seconds were beaten 3-1 by Westbury and United Banks 2s.
The stand-out performance was from the Ladies 2s, who despite already being crowned champions, brushed Dursley aside with a scintillating performance, which was their 16th win out of 18 matches.
Top goal-scorer Sally Thomas-Ellis opened Yate’s account with a powerful open play strike to bring her tally to 27 goals for the season. Kim Harris scored the second before Dursley scored an own goal.
Player of the match Chloe scored Yate’s fourth and Sharron Bates pounced on a rebound for Yate’s fifth. Harris claimed her brace and added to her impressive season’s tally after a goal-mouth scramble for Yate’s final goal, securing a 6-0 victory.
As for the first team, they put themselves fifth in the table with a very satisfying victory against Bath.
Zoe Vale opened Yate's account when she swept in a cross before Buccs equalised after 20 minutes when a reverse strike from the tightest of angles found its way through the Yate defence.
Vale gave Yate the lead a few minutes later when she made a great run into the D and found the net with a powerful raised strike, and it stayed 2-1 at half time.
The second half started more evenly but Yate soon found their high tempo again and Kyisha Cooke made it 3-1 before Holly Davies converted a short corner to make it four.
Another two goals quickly followed; Cooke won a penalty flick and Player of the Match Vale calmly converted it to seal her hat-trick.
From the ensuing restart, Jess Brain won the ball and passed to Shannon Saunders, who pressed forward and beat a number of players and the keeper to score the sixth and final goal to seal an emphatic 6-2 win.
Nic Bruce scored the only goal as Yate 3s edged Badminton, with keeper Nikki Ashley making a number of top saves to preserve the victory.
Yate Men 2s were the only men side to be in action this weekend, losing 3-1 against Westbury.
