CAM finished their season with a crushing victory at home to Fairford thanks to a brutal batting display.
With Cam guaranteed to finish 4th going into the game and their opponents already relegated, Cam’s batters made the most of ideal conditions with opening pair Ryan Malpass and Alex Ballard both racing to half-centuries in their opening stand of 154 in just 16 overs.
Malpass was first to fall as he dragged on for 71 before Gareth Udal departed soon after for 2. Ballard looked set for a century before he was unfortunate to pick out a fielder as he fell for 84, having belted 6 sixes along the way.
Ed Paddock and Craig Mills carried on Cam’s assault as they combined for a 147-run partnership as they continued to find the boundary with unrelenting regularity.
Paddock fell for 84, and a couple of quick wickets followed, but Mills remained till the end, finishing unbeaten on 85 as Cam racked up a daunting total of 366 for 6.
With the away side needing 8 an over from the outset, a successful run chase was always going to be difficult.
Alex Atkinson made the first breakthrough as he trapped Godwin LBW for 9 before George Dolling had the new batsman caught behind by Mills without scoring.
Jonny Hayward and Chris Browning were introduced to the attack during the middle overs and both men found success as they picked up two wickets apiece.
First, Udal took a comfortable catch off Hayward before a high catch at slip for Dolling off the bowling of Browning saw Fairford’s fourth wicket fall. A caught behind by Mills gave Hayward (2-17) his second wicket before a good low catch by Paddock saw Browning (2-29) follow suit.
A seventh-wicket partnership frustrated the home side for a good while before Dolling returned and made the key breakthrough in removing Welch for 57 as another outside edge was pouched by wicketkeeper Mills.
An identical dismissal off the next delivery saw Dolling (3-30) collect his third of the day.
The victory was secured in the next over as skipper Ballard (2-4) picked up the last two wickets in his first over of the match as Cam secured a 184-run victory to bring a successful season to a close.
