YATE Town were ruthlessly dispatched on Saturday in their FA Cup first-round qualifying tie at Merthyr Town, suffering their heaviest defeat of the season.
The Martyrs, playing in front of a crowd of over 800, raced out of the blocks and scored four goals in a devastating 21-minute spell.
Olly Mehew opened the scoring inside two minutes with a brilliant back-post header before Keiran Evans' superb long-distance strike found the back of the net to make it 2-0 after just 10 minutes.
Ricardo Rees reacted quickest to a save from the Yate keeper to add a third goal after an initial shot was stopped and Tom Handley then struck 60 seconds later with a fine finish to make it 4-0.
The game was essentially over at this point and in truth, the score could have been worse for the visitors.
Alex John went close with a free-kick and Mehew should have added a fifth in the first-half, but got his feet mixed up and could only scuff a close-range effort wide of the post.
But Mehew did add a fifth in the closing stages, finishing off a flowing counter-attack.
Kyle Tooze did provide something for the traveling supporters to cheer about in stoppage time but it will act as little consolation for The Bluebells, with the damage all done in the first 21 minutes.
