DESPITE Storm Babet doing its best to ruin the sporting weekend, Yate Hockey Club still put out five teams for league fixtures.
The Yate Ladies 1s emerged 1-1 on Saturday from a tight match against an energetic University of Bristol 2s side.
The match started at a high tempo with the first ten minutes mainly in Yate's half and the students were rewarded with an open play goal when their shot hit the post and ricocheted in off the unfortunate Yate keeper.
Shortly after Yate suffered another blow when captain Zoe Vale went off for the rest of the match, injured.
Yate regrouped and began to spend more time in the opposition D, but the score remained 1-0 to at half time.
Yate emerged determined and confident in the second half. Some skilful interplay up the pitch between player of the match Antonia Joy and Kyishia Cooke saw Cooke find the backboard with an excellent finish past the Uni keeper to level the score early in the first half.
Yate contained the students far better in the second half, with an excellent press and determined tackling. Yate had the corners in which to find a winner but in the end both sides had to settle for a draw.
As for the Yate Men 1s, they travelled to Bridgend 1s and came away on the wrong end of a 6-2 scoreline, the goals for Yate scored by Tom Clarke and Dom Chambers.
Yate Ladies 2s went down 3-0 to Bath Buccs, whilst the Yate Ladies 3s also suffered defeat at the hands of Wick by three goals to one.
The only win of the weekend went to Yate Men 2s, who enjoyed a convincing 5-0 win over Firebrands 5.
They took a 1-0 lead early on before a rush of goals came in the second half.
Martin Ashley was again on the scoresheet with a brace, Will Davies also scored two and Eliot Smith found the Backboard from a great short corner strike.
Player of the Match was Steve Mason.
