THORNBURY Town's U18s side produced a strong display on Sunday afternoon as they beat their Cribbs counterparts 3-0 in the Bristol U18 Football Combination League Division 2.
On a day unlikely to produce a classic game of football – heavy pitch and a strong wind – Thornbury looked to replicate their second-half performance from the week before
Thorns had the wind behind them in the first half, but it was the home goalkeeper, Harvey Elliott, who was called into action first - coming off his line quickly to smother a dangerous Cribbs attack.
Midway through the half, territorial advantage finally told and when a Toby Stagg shot was saved, Theo Reeves followed up, sat the keeper down and rolled the ball into an empty net
George Saunders, voted man of the match at full-time, struck the woodwork twice but it remained one-nil at the break.
The first quarter of the second period saw Thornbury, as expected, under pressure but a fantastic challenge from skipper Tom Elliott and a missed open goal from Cribbs saw their lead preserved.
Into the last quarter of an hour and with manager Jamie Curtis asking his substitutes to have an impact, Harrison Mills did just that when heading home a Saunders free-kick to double the lead
Callum Cain made the game safe with less than ten to go with a fantastic turn and shot into the top corner.
Man of the Match was awarded to Saunders for a gritty midfield display and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself.
