TWO young Chipping Sodbury batters were in ton-tastic form on the weekend, both reaching three figures for the first time.
Gautham Manchikalapati retired unbeaten on 101 from only 82 balls (16 fours) for Sodbury Under-13s who chased down a target of 230 to trump Rockhampton by eight wickets with more than three overs to spare.
And Riley Wakefield was also in tremendous form for Sodbury Under-15s, retiring on 103 off 88 (16 fours, one six) who suffered a last over three wicket defeat at Winterbourne.
The two memorable personal achievements capped a successful weekend of results for the club, encapsulated by the first XI’s storming 213-run victory away to Corse & Staunton where Jiwanjot Singh hit 82 and Eddie Holden captured 4-35.
It was a good day also for Sodbury 2nds who bowled out Cinderford St John for 97 to clinch a 102-run triumph, teenager Matt Elmore finishing with excellent figures of 4-21.
Sodbury 3rds succumbed by 94 runs at home to Almondsbury despite a tremendous 104 from opener Jake Kirkham (eight fours, five sixes).
But the fourths were seven-wicket victors at Frenchay, Bryan Jater leading the charge with an unbeaten 87. And there was a 27-run win for the 5ths in a friendly away to Bedminster, Sam Makepeace (51) and Elliot Box (49, both retired) both impressing at the top of the order.
Sodbury’s first XI were also in action on Sunday, putting up a valiant display in the Gloucestershire Cup away to Bedminster before going down by five wickets.
On Saturday, the first team are home to Charlton Kings with the 4ths hosting Hanham, while on Sunday Winsley are the visitors for a friendly match.
