Thornbury Rugby Club’s former player Jimmy Halliwell is now a World Cup winner having played in the England side that won the World Rugby U20 Championship 2024 in South Africa, writes Dave Fox.
Jimmy took part in his second U20 World Cup, with England improving on last year’s fourth place with an impressive 21-13 win over defending champions France.
Having missed the first match Jimmy played in two pool matches, scoring a try against Fiji, and throughout the knock-out stages which culminated in lifting the trophy.
His abilities were spotted at an early age and he was eventually drafted into the Bristol Bears development programme and brought into the Bristol Bears Academy.
He has played for Bristol First XV and will looking to increase his involvement with the Bears next season.
Jimmy is proud to have begun his rugby career at Thornbury, and presented the club with his U20 jersey after last year’s tournament.
Congratulations go to Jimmy from everyone at Thornbury RFC.
