ALL-ROUNDER Alex Gidman has signed a new contract with Gloucestershire.

At one stage, the 27-year-old looked likely to leave Nevil Road at the end of the season with Warwickshire leading the chase for his signature.

However, the impending arrival of John Bracewell as director of cricket convinced the vice-captain to stay with his home county.

Gidman said: "I am very pleased to have signed a new contract with the club.

"I am very excited about working with John Bracewell again, and I feel that with the right investment of players and the continued excellent support we get from fans and members, we can start to climb the ladder once again."

Chief Executive, Tom Richardson commented: "Clearly we are delighted that Alex has signed a new contract. We see him as a very important part of the team both now and in the future."
