Gloucestershire Division 1st XI; Stone (217-8) lost to Painswick (218-6) by four wickets
PETER Lavis’ innings of 78 was not enough as Stone crashed to another home defeat at the hands of local rivals Painswick on Saturday.
Opposing skipper and former Gloucestershire bowler Ali Bressington bowled the dangerous Darren Turl for a duck with a superb yorker and then bowled Andrew Hall leaving Stone on 0-2.
However, Stone captain Lavis led the recovery and was given good support by Dave Jones (29) and Peter Booth (19). Charlie Viney also chipped in with a useful 33 off 24 balls down the order.
Viney then starred with the ball taking the early wickets of Julian Telling and Wayne Neville.
Sean Powyer’s cultured 86 and Bressington (57) put Painswick well on course for victory.
Lavis struck with the ball to dismiss them both, before David Boon and Jack Thorne were out cheaply.
It was Dan Cave though with a hard hitting 35, who took Painswick home with six overs to spare.
