Dursley Bowls Club member, Keith Hinder was unfortunate to lose an exciting County Singles Championship by one shot on Sunday afternoon at the Falcon Bowls Club in Painswick.
Watched by a large crowd, Hinder took an early lead of 14 shots to 5 versus Lee Williamson of Barnwood Bowls Club.
Two years ago Williamson reached the national final and he began to show his class in ends 18 to 22. He took the lead 19-15 as the bowlers aimed to be the first to 21 shots.
However, Hinder fought back with two singles and his first three to lead 20 - 19.
In the next end Williamson was holding one shot when Hinder played the last shot into a crowded head.
Unfortunately he just touched one of his opponent’s bowls to go two down and lose the match.
After the match Hinder said: “It was disappointing to lose for a third time in a County Singles Final but what is to be will be and I look forward to playing in the National Championships first round, at Worthing (on August 21), when I meet a bowler from Lincolnshire.”
