GOALKEEPERS are a funny breed, some might say as mad as a box of frogs.
Terry Burton describes himself as the Blue Square Premier’s answer to Bruce Grobbelar, but the eccentric former soldier turned Forest Green keeper insists his rivalry with Ryan Robinson is friendly.
“Robbo and I are good mates and work well together in training,” said Burton.
Former soldier Burton held the number one mantle at the back end of the season, playing the final nine games of the season and he is determined to keep hold of the spot.
He said: “The gaffer (Jim Harvey) will probably tell us later in the week who has the shirt for the Kettering game on Saturday.
“ I finished the season as number one and I would be disappointed if I failed to get the nod, but if Robbo gets the shirt I will get my head down and try and get back in.”
Robinson admits his time on the sidelines at the tail end of the season has given the former Blackburn and Morecambe keeper the impetus to reclaim his number-one spot.
“ I lost a bit of form to be fair and the gaffer took me out of the team and to be honest it was the kick-up the backside I needed.
“I’ve come back more hungry this season and the way things have gone during the pre-season I would be disappointed to say the least if I failed to start.”
