YATE TOWN now need a minor miracle to avoid relegation after they conceded three goals in the last 18 minutes to relegation rivals Hitchin last night.
The defeat left Yate bottom of the table with five games to go, seven points adrift of safety, which effectively becomes eight due to their inferior goal difference.
Jake Reid gave Dave Mogg’s men the lead in the first half. when he finished well on the near post from Sam Duggan’s cross On 40 minutes a long range effort from Hitchin’s Kieron St Aimie came back off the woodwork.
Yate came close to extending their lead in the second half when Dean Griffiths’ volley hit the post and Reid fired over the crossbar.
However, defender Aron Robbins scored an own goal as Hitchin equalised in the 72nd minute.
Hitchin sunk Yate with two late goals through Mark Barnes who slotted the ball home on 89 minutes and substitute James Edgerley smashed in a free kick a minute later.
