FORMER Marlwood School pupil Charlotte Walker and Bristol Phoenix Women’s Cricket Club team-mate Abby Evans have been selected for the 2009 Team England squad.
They are set to compete in the Indoor Cricket World Cup (ICWC) to be held in Brisbane West Indoor Centre, Queensland, Australia, from October 10 to 17 2009.
At a Ceremony held at Whitchurch Sports Stadium, Bristol, they were presented with their England training shirts by ex-England and Middlesex Captain, Mike Gatting.
Walker and Evans have played club cricket for Thornbury and Shirehampton respectively as well as for the Junior Girls County Teams for the last few years.
They have now become an integral part of the Senior Women’s County Team, which will be playing in Division five of the ECB County Championship this season.
Both girls will attending intensive training sessions with Shawn Schaper, South Africa’s Head Coach.
The training squad will be reduced from 16 to 12 on June 8 following the training sessions. The four shadow players will continue to practice with the final squad and will be ready to play in event of any withdrawals.
