THORNBURY'S oscillating form swung back to a positive as they clinically dismantled Berry Hill, scoring seven tries in the process.
The game had been in play three minutes when the ball was moved quickly to Sam Olde who cut through the Berry Hill defence to score in the corner. Simon Weaver’s conversion missed but a few minutes later he kicked a penalty to put Thorns 8-0 ahead.
The visitors pack began to take control of tight play. They enjoyed their best part of the game as their scrum registered a push-over try shortly followed by a second forward orientated try to put them 12-8 ahead.
George Maggs and Ben Fowkes inspired a move deep into Berry Hill territory. From a lineout on the Berry Hill line Tom Guzman drove over for an unconverted try. Almost directly from the restart Fowkes made another break and Weaver raced past four players for a glorious try, which he converted to put Thornbury 20-12 ahead at the break.
Thornbury made a spectacular start to the second half when a Fowkes break was finished off by Guzman for another converted try. Thorns threatened to run Berry Hill ragged. However, Berry Hill were able to withstand the storm and eventually Thorns conceded a third try to the visitors’ pack.
From the restart, Sam Olde sprinted through the Berry Hill defence for a glorious try which Weaver converted. Thorns attacked again, Steve Allington and Dai Matthews creating a score for Fowkes.
Berry Hill scored a fourth try but Thorns had the final say when Jon Day powered over for the seventh Thornbury try close to full-time. Simon Weaver converted to end with a 16-point haul.
Thornbury’s dazzling rugby secured them a win which moves them two places up the table to ninth.
