YOUNGSTER Charlie Lacey scored the winner five minutes from time to give Yate Town a derby victory over Clevedon Town this afternoon.
Although Dave Mogg’s men still look likely to finish in the bottom four with at least six points to claw back on those above the drop zone, this victory at least gives them a glimmer of hope of staying up with three games to go.
Dean Griffiths’ opener after 32 minutes was cancelled out by Tom Billing on 62 minutes before Lacey’s late strike.
Meanwhile Mangotsfield United were relegated today after they were beaten 4-0 at Oxford City.
Yate visit Gloucester City in the semi-finals of the GFA Cup at the Corinium Stadium, Cirencester on Wednesday (7.45pm).
That is followed by a home game against Stourbridge on Saturday and the reverse fixture at Clevedon next Tuesday as Yate attempt to take their bid for survival down to the wire.
More to follow in Thursday’s Gazette.
Did Yate deserve to beat Clevedon? Can they pull off the great escape? Have your say below.
