ALMONDSBURY TOWN'S incredible run of form continued over the Bank Holiday period as they recorded two wins away from home, making it ten victories in a row.

The 1-0 victory at Milton United was followed by a 3-0 win at Chalfont Wasps to keep up the pressure at the top of the table.

Almondsbury have now scored 100 league goals this season but wins for Shortwood United and Hungerford Town mean on Monday and Tuesday respectively mean they are still two points behind in third with two games to play - two less than their rivals.

Manager Paul Weeks said: “Hungerford and Shortwood have games in hand but we have the points in the bag and we are doing everything we can to keep the pressure on them right until the end.”

Almondsbury took the lead against Milton in the fourth minute when a shot from Brad Andrews was deflected into the path of Paul Milsom who made no mistake with a low drive to give the keeper no chance.

The home keeper was in outstanding form all afternoon making outstanding saves from efforts by Kane Ingram, Sahr Kabba, Paul Fowler and Andrews.

The second half was much the same with the Almonds totally dominating only to be left frustrated by the heroics of the home goalkeeper.

“We made a great start by taking an early lead and dominating the first half, although we failed to add to our lead from a number of good chances,” said Weeks.

Those three points set them up nicely for the game with Chalfont Wasps. Chalfont made a determined start by battling for every ball but on 29 minutes, a Mckilvaney pass set free the overlapping Kris Davis, whose first time pass was finished by Deon Noakes to put the Almonds 1-0 up. The second half saw Almondsbury step up a gear and Mckilvaney was at it again as his excellent cross was finished by man of the match Adam Cole. A rash challenge by substitute Tony Davis gifted the home side a penalty, but Almonds keeper Ben John dived to his right hand side to save it and preserve the Almonds’ lead. With ten minutes to go, Ingram picked up the ball on the left hand side and with a jinking run, beat two defenders before unleashing a low drive to give Almondsbury their 100th league goal of the season. With two league games to go the Almonds can achieve 92 points which means they would have to rely on other results going their way if they are to win the league. The Almonds face Hook Norton away next Saturday, before travelling to Old Woodstock for the League Cup semi-final on Tuesday. The final league game of the season is at home to Reading Town on Saturday, April 25.
