RESERVE team player Dennis Hylton grabbed his first team chance with both hands as he hit a brace in this victory over Thornbury Town.
With five players unavailable for the Swans, Hylton made his first team debut and added to the 45 goals he had already scored for the club this season.
James Cole’s men still lead the table by a point ahead of Ellwood and Kings Stanley, who beat Highridge United 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Slimbridge could have been two up inside three minutes, but Will Wellon’s free header from Lee Martin’s corner went wide and keeper Malcolm somehow dropped Craig Cole’s corner.
On 21 minutes, Town’s James Derosa blazed over after a counter-attack.
Slimbridge opened the scoring a minute later when keeper Andrew Radford found Marvyn Roberts. The skipper fed Martin, who in turn found Hylton to slot home from 20 yards.
Alexander had a chance for the visitors on 24 minutes but Radford saved his breakaway effort.
The Swans doubled their advantage on 30 minutes when Marc Roffe’s glancing header from Martin’s free kick deceived the keeper.
The third goal came on 62 minutes when Sterling’s cross was headed on by Wilton to Hylton who shot home from inside the box.
Manager Cole then introduced Turner, for his first appearance of the season.
Town’s Alexander grabbed a consolation goal with the last kick of the game.
Cole said “With five players out, it was very important that we put the last two losses behind us. Hylton showed that he is capable of scoring at the level and young Turner showed some good touches.”
