THE seemingly annual poor weather at the start of the domestic cricket season denied Gloucestershire an impressive victory over Surrey.
Alex Gidman’s men were able to enforce the follow-on on the County Championship Division Two title favourites, but five sessions had already been lost to rain and bad light as the game ended in a predictable draw.
Resuming on 18-3 in their first innings on day four, Surrey were bowled out for 160 with James Franklin taking 3-23 on his return to Gloucestershire.
The wickets were shared around with Steve Kirby (2-44), Ian Saxelby (2-33) and Vikram Banerjee (2-26) taking two wickets apiece and one for Jon Lewis (1-28), while Usman Afzaal top scored with 65 for the hosts.
Surrey played out for the draw, ending their second innings on 64-2 from 30 overs with Lewis and Chris Taylor taking Gloucestershire’s wickets.
Gloucestershire still took ten points from the game compared to Surrey’s seven.
