A DISASTROUS five-minute spell left Yate Town on the brink of relegation.

After falling behind to an early goal, Jake Reid’s quick double gave Yate a 2-1 lead, which they held onto until the last 12 minutes until it was shattered emphatically.

Only goal difference now separates Yate from being mathematically relegated and anything other than a win at local rivals and fellow strugglers Clevedon Town on Tuesday night will condemn them to Division One West.

Their fate will be sealed either way if Hitchin Town win at Bashley on the same evening, although a point for Hitchin would be enough given Yate’s inferior goal difference.

Stourbridge took the lead inside the first minute when Drew Canavan centred and Kyle Hadley scored.

Yate fought back admirably equalised on seven minutes when Dean Griffiths played in Reid who finished well.

Ten minutes later the visitors only partially cleared and Reid headed into the far corner.

The second half saw Stourbridge come more into the game, but they seldom looked dangerous and Yate appeared likely to take the points.

However, when one of Yate’s attacks broke down, the referee ignored appeals for a foul and the ball was quickly worked upfield for Linden Dovey to equalise.

This seemed to demoralise Yate, and within four minutes Stourbridge took a two-goal lead through Sam Rock and Aaron Drake.
