AN AMAZING five-goal blitz inside the final 20 minutes gave Dursley Town victory over Cam Bulldogs in a thrilling derby encounter last Thursday evening.

Town were on the ropes midway through the second half, but they turned the game around in dramatic style to send the Bulldogs closer to relegation from Northern Senior One.

Dursley manager Chris Dolbear said: “In many ways it was typical of our season - we hung in there, kept going and eventually got our reward.”

In driving rain, the bottom-of-the-table Bulldogs took the lead ten minutes after the break.

Keith Watson could only manage a parry after Carl Bailey’s 20-yard free-kick bisected the defensive wall and Chris Harvey slid in to put the home side ahead.

Then substitute Dan Landridge headed in from a corner only for the referee to rule it out because of a push.

Staring at defeat, Dolbear introduced Will Steel, Simon Miles and Rich Crowcombe which turned the game.

Town drew level when Steel’s mis-hit shot in a goalmouth scramble was diverted into the net by the head of Meta.

Steel put the visitors in front shortly afterwards, after Steve Bennett’s pull-back went loose in the box.

Nash drove in the third from a tight angle after Jagger had saved from Bennett.

Five minutes from time, Dursley made it 4-1 as Nash shot into an empty net after Jagger failed to collect a through ball.

Landridge pulled a goal back with two minutes to go as he converted Vines’ right-wing centre with a sharp finish, but Town had the final word, albeit in farcical circumstances.

Steel caught Jagger in possession as he dribbled out of his penalty area and the goalkeeper promptly wrestled the Dursley man to the ground. The ball broke to Meta, who shot into the open goal from 35 yards, but the flag went up for offside against him before the referee eventually allowed the strike to stand.

Beaten Cam boss Jon Cruse said: “I couldn’t see why the referee disallowed the header to make it 2-0. Things could have been different if the goal had stood.”
