THORNBURY TOWN dented any outside hopes Henbury had of winning the title with this fine victory. Henbury took the game straight to Thornbury from the first whistle yet it was Town who could have opened the scoring when Steve Alexander was played through, but the ball was on his weaker left foot and the opportunity went begging. A hesitant piece of defending was yet again to cost Thornbury when an error after 15 minutes allowed George Watts to give Henbury an undeserved lead. On the half hour mark Thornbury were level when, from an impossible angle, Alexander scored. With the half time whistle fast approaching Henbury yet again took the lead when Craig Hobbs shot from the edge of the box past a stunned Thornbury keeper.
Whatever Thornbury management team of Dave Lippiatt and Derosa said to the team during the half time break certainly worked as they came out fighting. Steve Rice replaced the injured Mike Usher and was soon creating chances in the Henbury goal area.
But it was strike partner Chris Parry that drew Town level from the penalty spot after 50 minutes following a handball decision.
Once level, Town never looked back and further goals first from James Derosa and the sublime chip from just inside the penalty area at an angle from Steve Rice gave them a well deserved win and another valuable three points. With four games remaining Thornbury are looking for a comfortable mid-table finish to the season and the whole team and management can be well satisfied with the progress made.
Saturday sees the first of back to back games against Hanham who are looking to get out of the relegation area. The first is a home encounter (3pm).
