IT WAS a familiar story for relegated Yate Town as they let a two-goal lead slip to drop two points in their final game of the season at Cambridge City.
Striker Jake Reid made it five goals in three games with a brace to put Yate comfortably ahead after 30 minutes but Cambridge, already assured of a play-off place, scored two quick goals to level the scores with 15 minutes to go.
The late demise epitomised Yate’s season and when looking for reasons why they have been relegated, you cannot look much further than their inability to hold onto leads which has cost them on countless occasions.
The point was at least enough for them to finish off the bottom of the table ahead of local rivals Mangotsfield United, who were 3-2 winners over Bedford Town.
They went ahead on 20 minutes when captain Scott Brice released Reid, whose scuffed shot beat goalkeeper Zac Barrett.
Ten minutes later Reid took advantage of Ben Nunn’s poor header back to his keeper for a tap-in goal.
Dave Theobald pulled a goal back on 72 minutes when he tapped after Scott Neilson’s run down the right.
City levelled soon after when Neilson got on the end of Barrett’s long clearance and side-footed home.
