STONE captain Peter Lavis has called for more of his players to start chipping in this season.
They start their 2009 campaign in the Gloucester Division on Saturday with a trip to Woodmancote and are looking to improve on their bottom but one finish last season.
Skipper Lavis, who was the club’s leading run scorer last season, felt his side were relying on certain players and is hoping for others to start contributing this time around so Stone can start competing in the upper reaches of the table again.
He said: “The season before I felt we over achieved when we were in the hunt until the last four games. Last year I felt we under achieved quite a lot.
“We need to get back to everyone chipping in.
“I don’t want to have a big load with the ball, I want to concentrate more on my batting this year. If we can get everyone averaging 20 or 30 then we are laughing.
“Hopefully we can finish top four or top six - we’ll wait and see.”
A number of youngsters such as promising brothers Henry and Charlie Ball broke into the first team last term and Lavis is hopeful that a few more gems will start making progress through the ranks of the club this year.
On the other end of the spectrum, experienced campaigners Darren Turl, Charlie Viney and Ian Hall will be key players again for Stone.
