A CIARAN GREENING own goal saw Hallen end the season in defeat.

The first chance fell to the hosts in the 14th minute when a curling shot hung in the wind and went just over the bar.

Then on 20 minutes Andy Cook put in an excellent cross that was headed away for a corner as Tony Beecham was arriving at the far post. From the corner, Ronnie Mowatt’s header was kicked off of the line by a defender.

Barnstaple again went close when a free kick went just the wrong side of the post with our defence beaten.

Hallen were grateful to Steve Scannell for making a good reaction save with his leg as Barnstaple threatened from a corner.

Within a minute of the restart the home team had a free kick that was floated into the area where an unmarked striker managed to completely mis-time his header.

Stuart Nelson then had a shot saved on the line by the keeper.

Good work deep in the right hand corner saw Tom Collett’s centre being met by the head of Robbie Allen as he arrived in the area. but after he strained to reach it the effort went a foot over the bar.

On 65 minutes Hallen missed their best chance when Collett managed to fire over the top with the keeper to beat after good work by Beecham and Griffiths.

To make this miss more vital, from the goal kick, the ball was taken at Hallen’s defence where Reider was cleverly side stepped before Scannell did well to make a save. The ball hit an unsuspecting Greening before rebounding over the line.

Late on, the home team missed a good chance, Robbie Allen got forward to test the keeper, Cook had a header saved on the line, and three Hallen lads failed to get the needed touch on Collett’s cross shot.
