DAVE MOGG has given the biggest indication so far that he would like to continue as Yate Town manager next season by saying he wants to ‘repair the damage that has been done.’

The former Bath City goalkeeper took charge in February following the controversial sacking of Richard Thompson but was unable to stop the club being relegated from the Southern League Premier Division.

He is set to meet Chairman Peter Jackson in the next week to discuss whether it is in the interest for all parties for him to continue.

Mogg said: “Very much a part of me wants to go to Yate and repair the damage that has been done.

“It was something I inherited but, because of the timing when Richard Thompson was sacked, I have not been able to do anything about.

“If Richard Thompson had stayed he may well have sorted those problems but he wasn’t given the time and they asked me to do it.

“I want to start afresh with my own set of players and be judged on my own decisions.”

If Mogg is given the opportunity to continue, he faces a difficult task keeping much of the current squad together.

Goalkeeper Tony Court, who has been out with a shoulder injury since August, has agreed to join Chippenham Town, while Aaron Blakemore has attracted interest from Weston-Super-Mare all year and looks set to move with his contract running out.

Dean Griffiths, who was fined two weeks wages for breaching his contract last week and left on the bench for the final game of the season at Cambridge City, is also expected to leave.

He is the club’s leading goalscorer having netted 17 times in the 2008/09 campaign and is not expected to drop a level, with Tiverton Town leading the chase for his signature.

Scott Brice, who was impressive throughout the season, is also looking to talk to other clubs but Yate would be entitled to a fee as he is only 22-years-old.

Mogg has expressed a desire to keep hold of his captain along with Edd Vahid, Lee Matthews, Sam Duggan and Paul Metheringham - players whose attitudes he reserved special praise for.

It was a familiar story for Yate as they let a two-goal lead slip in their final game of the season at Cambridge City last Saturday.

Striker Jake Reid made it five goals in three games with a brace to put Yate comfortably ahead after 30 minutes but Cambridge, already assured of a play-off place, scored two quick goals through Dave Theobald and Scott Neilson to level the scores with 15 minutes to go.

Mogg said: “It is very frustrating. The problems could have been avoided just by sticking at it.

“When the chips are down there are not enough leaders there to get the result.

“We did not finish bottom so we’re hanging on to the fact that leagues are restructuring and we don’t know where that will take us.”
