CRAIG SPEARMAN hit 92 to send Gloucestershire on their way to another Friends Provident Trophy victory over Yorkshire and put them in pole position to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Gloucestershire put 269 on the scoreboard batting first and despite South African international Jacques Rudolph hitting 118, the home side fell 28 runs short at Headingly.

Spearman hit five fours and two sixes on his way to 92 which came off just 71 balls with opener Kadeer Ali (63) also helping to put Gloucestershire in a commanding position.

Yorkshire made a decent start in reply with Andrew Gale (33) and Rudolph putting on 67 for the first wicket.

Young spinner Vikram Banerjee had a moment to remember as he removed former England Ashes winning captain, Michael Vaughan for five, caught by Tom Stayt. Yorkshire went on to 188-3 at one stage before Jon Lewis removed Joseph Sayers (30) and the hosts struggled to recover.

Lewis claimed figures of 3-46 from his ten overs, while there was also two wickets for youngster Tom Stayt.

Kirby finally removed Rudolph, caught by Spearman, as Yorkshire’s innings ended on 241-8.

Gloucestershire are the only team to have won all their games so far in group A and will be looking to secure their place in the last eight over the next week.

They have two home games coming up against Durham and Yorkshire on Sunday and Monday respectively, before visiting Surrey next Wednesday as the Trophy takes over their schedule for the next two weeks.
