WITH the disappointment of missing out for League honours, Kingswood were determined to finish as high as possible in the table.

The loss of key players in the final run-in has impacted upon recent results, but those fringe players coming in have given their all in an attempt to keep things going.

Tommy Higgins benefited from the tenacious work of Ryan Mudd on 25 minutes, providing the chance to snatch the opening goal. The home side then appeared to relax and if anything become complacent.

Despite the best efforts of skipper Mike Shaw, his side became lethargic and looked as if they were waiting for someone else to do the work for them.

This gave Star some encouragement and, but for the agility and bravery of Chris Fox in the home goal, may have caused an upset.

With it 1-0 at the break, a second was imperative for the home side and it arrived on the hour mark. After some good work from Ben Miles and Ryan Mudd, Dan Griffiths collected a loose ball in the box before turning and firing across the goalkeeper into the far corner.

Star tried valiantly to raise their game, but Gavin Dibden and Ben Miles protected their defensive line well. But nothing could be done about Mike Rodman's own goal in the dying seconds as he sliced a clearance in Fox's top corner with aplomb.
