TEENAGER Juvaunie Gayle scored his maiden first team century as Thornbury made it three wins out of three in the league.

In dodgy overhead conditions, Thornbury were inevitably asked to bat after losing the toss and swiftly lost openers Chris Dent (0) and Nick Stovold (4) to be 10-2 after eight overs. Kaniska (16) and Gayle started to get the Thornbury innings back on track before Powell forced Kaniska to nick one behind at 43-3.

With conditions still favouring the fielding team, captain Trotman joined Gayle at the crease and the two of them resurrected the faltering start with intelligent stroke play, making sure that the board kept ticking over. With the odd rain delay both players passed 50 in sharing a 139-run partnership which was ended when Trotman was caught in the deep for 50 looking to accelerate the scoring at 182-4 after 38 overs.

Gayle continued his stroke play and brought up his century to spark celebrations of a much deserved manner, in an innings of great temperament in the conditions for the youngster, who is still only 19. He was caught eventually for 127 and along with the lower middle order, helped the total to 244.

Knowing a good start was necessary with the opening bowlers, neither Adam Fidoe or Trotman found consistency and Warminster got off to a flyer at 66-0 after nine overs. Gayle was then introduced and reaped rewards straight away having Mark Tenty caught by Stovold for 28.

Trotman returned at the other end and the two of them then ripped through the top order to leave them at 108-5 (Gayle 3-27; Trotman 2-44) in a ten-over spell that brought Thornbury right back into the game.

Another rain delay halted proceedings and on the return Fidoe was the catalyst of the Warminster collapse, cleaning up the tail in a spell of 5-7 to finish with 5-55.

This win retains Thornbury at the top of the table and they travel to Taunton next week in another big game where the side hope to remain unbeaten.
