KINGSWOOD brought the curtain down on their campaign with victory over fellow promoted side Brimscombe & Thrupp.
Both teams were secure in the knowledge that they have County League football ahead of them next season and the fact that this result wouldn’t change either side’s league position.
Kingswood finished a point behind Brimscombe in third and both sides go up as champions Longlevens’ ground does not meet County League standards.
Kingswood started brightly with both front men Dan Griffiths and Tommy Higgins having an early chance each.
However, some slack defending on 14 minutes let in the visitors and their prolific striker John Dalton notched his 42nd league goal of the campaign.
The early goal opened the game up and the pace was enjoyed by the many spectators.
Kingswood slowly got on top and dominated the midfield area, Paul Eldridge back to his best in the thick of the challenges.
Gavin Dibden struck an equaliser on 35 minutes picking his spot from the edge of the penalty area.
Level at the break, Brimscombe were guilty of missed chances early in the second half, and Kingswood made them pay when substitute Ryan Mudd scored on 65 minutes.
The home side could also enjoy the luxury of a missed penalty as Eldridge’s kick beat the crossbar.
Kingswood won the match but it was Brimscombe who were presented with the League runners-up trophy and medals by league officials John Green and Clive Starkey.
Kingswood stalwart Mr Wilkes commented: “The lads have been fantastic this year, played some great football and thoroughly deserve their chance in a higher league. I wish the club the best of luck next season.”
