STONE were edged out in a thrilling contest against Bredon on Saturday.
In a game where the initiative constantly swung from one side to another, Bredon won it with a six in the first ball of the last over.
After Stone chose to bat first, Simon Riches removed Peter Booth (9) and Miles Palmer (0) in quick succession.
The experienced Darren Turl hit 46 and skipper Peter Lavis chipped in with 25 but it was down to a seventh wicket stand to lift Stone to a total that could challenge.
Number eight Trevor Burley hit 53 not out and Andrew Hall struck an unbeaten 44 as they ended the innings on 218-6.
Charlie Viney (1-40) removed Bredon opener Kevin Hall early for ten before Martyn Draper (28) and Mike Hickey (25) steadied the ship.
Burley (1-54) and Lavis eventually removed the pair respectively, but Clive Fenney did most of the damage with 58.
He was trapped lbw by Lavis (2-50) but Kevin Wilkins scored an unbeaten 54 and Lee Diamond supported him with 18 not out to give Bredon victory.
Stone face Hatherley and Reddings at home on Saturday, with only Fairford currently below them in the table.
