IN A reversal of the previous week’s fixture, Thornbury gained revenge on Chippenham at the Ship Ground on Saturday.
After captain Richard Trotman decided to bat first, Nick Stovold started in a very positive fashion.
Tom Davies was again the main threat in the Chippenham attack and he made the breakthrough, having Greg Stephens and Stovold (30) caught behind.
Juvaunie Gayle and David Hammond began to re-build the innings.
The partnership had moved to 84 when Hammond (34) chipped an easy catch to mid-wicket and in the very next over, Gayle (42) was clean bowled by Higgins .
Trotman and Curtis Blakemore rebuilt again, Blakemore in particular striking the ball with great confidence.
Clifton Folkes returned to the attack and broke the 110-run partnership by bowling Trotman (43) and having Blakemore (56) caught in the covers.
The remaining batsmen maintained the momentum before last man Andrew White was run out in the final over.
Thornbury’s opening bowlers of Gayle and Karl Hurkett found consistency a problem.
Trotman replaced Gayle and quickly dismissed Pocock (13) and Rowson (6) but Gloucestershire’s Rob Woodman was playing with ease. However, Trotman produced an excellent slower ball to Woodman (57) and trapped him lbw.
The game then became the Chalky White show as the left-arm spinner destroyed the Chippenham middle and lower order.
He had Higgins (29) caught on the boundary by Stephens and made very light work of Bates, Miles, Folkes and Davies.
Hurkett got rid of the battling Williams (43) but White ended it as Kenny caught Ward to conclude the game, Chippenham 218 all out.
White returned marvellous figures of 9.1-2-32-6 to add to his five-wicket haul from last week and also helped Thornbury to regain second place in the league.
