TWO Thornbury Running Club triathletes will be travelling to Australia for the World Championships in September.
Both Jane Leslie and Jon Greenwood won their first Olympic Distance (1500m swim/25mile bike/10k run) competition at the initial World Qualifying event, The Little Beaver, at Belvoir Castle. Leslie won her event in a time of 2hrs 49mins, beating the current World Champion in the 60-65 age group. Greenwood came first in the 55-59 category, with a time of 2hrs.
The World Championships will be held on the Gold Coast, Australia on September 12. Both athletes competed in the World Championships in Hamburg and Vancouver before.
At the British National Age Group Championships in Northumberland in June, both athletes had excellent race times, with Leslie winning the title in a time of 2hrs 33min and Grenwood coming fourth in his age with a time of 2hrs 23min.
More recently, they both competed in the ASA Western Counties Swimming Championships in Gloucester on the same day as running an eight-mile leg of the Cotswold Way relay.
Leslie won her 1500m race in a time of 24:08, while Greenwood finished second in his race in 29:48.
