THE rain dealt a huge blow to Cam’s chances of ending their losing run.
After Ben Holloway produced two excellent spells of bowling, claiming 6-32, Cam were eyeing up victory.
Pete Hall elected to field and was rewarded with an early wicket as Holloway removed Dunn after a diving catch from Tom Deakin.
Holloway then proceeded to the next three wickets in an opening spell of 6-1-10-4.
Eddie Rendall, returning to action after injury, produced a tight spell of bowling.
Gareth Udal then bowled in tandem with the returning Holloway.
The fifth wicket for Holloway came after a catch behind from first team debutant Martin Livall.
A slower ball the following Holloway over removed Edgington for 49 and gave him his sixth wicket - all being the top six batsmen.
Udal then claimed two wickets, and Rendall returned to the attack along with Pete Hall to share the last two wickets.
Cam’s innings started positively with Deakin finding the boundaries early on before Udal was dismissed for three.
Deakin (21*) and Adam Holloway (6*) looked to score quickly but the light drizzle became heavier resulting in both sides leaving the field and not to return.
MGM Stroud League Division One - Cam III (33) lost to Rockhampton III (175)
Despite the wet weather, Rockhampton stormed to victory following an epic bowling performance from Shaun Williams.
After Rockhampton were asked to bat first, they made a good start with openers Dave Long and Chris Taylor setting about building a good total to defend.
Long was dismissed, caught at point for 15 but with Martin Grey at the crease runs continued to flow with Taylor reaching 50 after another sublime four. However, Cam’s bowlers fought back spiritedly, with youth to the fore. George Dolling bowled two impressive spells and Fin Dixon again showed his increasing aptitude for senior cricket, maintaining a superb line and length. Taylor (54) failed to add too many onto his half century and when Steve Ives was given out lbw for 0 the game was starting to turn in Cam’s favour.
Nick Fraser (11) provided some resistance before being caught and Rich Mackinnon hit 14 before being run out.
Martin Grey (44) went soon after and from a position of dominance Rockhampton were in danger of falling short of a defendable total.
Three first ball ducks in the first seven balls meant the writing was on the wall for Cam.
Rockhampton needed some quick wickets to try and beat the weather and couldn’t have asked for a better start, Shaun Williams taking a wicket with the second ball of the game. Williams (9-5-5-5) then had Watson caught with his very next delivery and without wanting to miss out on the action, Cullimore (6-1-20-3) took a wicket with his first delivery, having Everett caught and bowled.
The impending rain didn’t arrive early enough to save Cam, who collapsed to 33 all out, with Alex Ballard showing excellent technique against the searching attack and Keith Rapson enduring several body blows in futile defiance.
Dave Long’s (2.2-0-5-2) spin eventually proved too much for Rapson and he top edged to Williams as Rockhampton wrapped up their win to stay unbeaten at the top of the league.
