FORMER Forest Green striker Stuart Fleetwood is relishing his return to the New Lawn.

However, it is not yet known which shirt he will be wearing as Exeter City have made a bid to sign the Charlton man this week.

The Addicks head to Gloucestershire for Forest Green’s first home friendly on Saturday, with the Grecians visiting exactly a week later.

Charlton’s trip to The Lawn was part of the deal that took Fleetwood to the former Premiership club last summer for an undisclosed compensation fee.

"I am really looking forward to my return," said Fleetwood. "Jim Harvey helped get my career back on track and it will be nice to see everyone again."

Fleetwood arrived at The Valley after blasting 32 league and cup goals in 2007/08 for Rovers, and his 28 league strikes earned him the Blue Square Premier Golden Boot.

Yet to make his Addicks debut, the 23-year-old helped Exeter win promotion to League One during a loan stint at St James’ Park late last season.

Gloucester-born Fleetwood joined Cardiff City as a 12-year-old and boasts Championship experience with the Bluebirds against the likes of Derby County, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Reading.

And, having replaced Rob Earnshaw for his debut in the League Cup as a 17-year-old in August 2003, he would make eight league appearances, all but one from the bench.

‘Fleets’, who won the first of his five caps for Wales U21 against Latvia in 2004, left Cardiff in 2006 to join Hereford United, helping Graham Turner’s side win their Conference play-off final to seal a place back in the Football League.

He enjoyed a dream start to the next campaign with the Bulls, scoring on the opening day at Stockport County and then again at home to Chester City a week later.

His impressive August continued when he hit a hat-trick to condemn Championship Coventry City to a shock League Cup reverse at Edgar Street with his fine form earning further international recognition.

However, a viral infection delayed his progress somewhat after that, and he featured three times on loan at Accrington Stanley before leaving Hereford at the end of the campaign.

His undoubted talent was unearthed by Jim Harvey at Forest Green, however, after he signed a one-year deal, and he went on to top the scoring charts with 27 goals in the league and 36 in total.

After turning down a move to Crewe Alexandra in January, Fleetwood stayed at The Lawn and helped Rovers to their best-ever finish, scoring on his final league outing at Histon before securing a dream switch to The Valley.

After loan switch to Cheltenham Town followed, Fleetwood notching twice before returning to SE7.

Shortly afterwards, he was on the move again, joining Brighton & Hove Albion on loan for three months.

He made the trip back to The Valley in late January before another temporary switch, this time to Exeter City, who he helped land automatic promotion to League One.

Phil Parkinson’s side will include former Leeds United captain Frazer Richardson who joined the League One side last week.
