THORNBURY captain Richard Trotman says his side must capitalise on their next two games to maintain their promotion challenge in West of England Premier Two.
Their game at Ilminster on Saturday was rained off after they made 219-8 batting first and with only one other game in the division being played - third placed Cheltenham losing to Chippenham - they stayed second.
If Thornbury can remain in the top two for the last seven games they will return to Premier One but with only 29 points separating the top five Trotman expects it to go down to the wire. He is targeting two wins from the next two games, which are against bottom three sides, starting with Trowbridge tomorrow, who are propping up the table.
"We have got a strong side so I would be disappointed if we didn’t win," said Trotman.
"The lads are playing well, the young guys are scoring runs and taking wickets and we’re one player off being at full strength.
He added: "The top six could be any order at the end of the year so we’ve got to capitalise on the next two games."
"Every week it could change quite easily. We’re in the best position because we’ve got the points but there will be twists and turns in the last seven games."
Trotman believes his side were well placed for their sixth win of the season at Ilminster before the heavens opened.
Gloucestershire academy player Chris Dent scored 82, while another youngster, Juvaunie Gayle, hit 34 and Trotman himself chipped in with 31.
He said: "We were disappointed to be called off because I think that was the highest score at Ilminster this season.
"I was happy with 219, I thought it would be a winning score.
"The good thing is everyone was called off and Chippenham beating Cheltenham was a good result."
All-rounder Richard Wild is expected to be Thornbury’s only absentee for their game against Trowbridge tomorrow.
