CHIPPING SODBURY maintained top spot with a comprehensive victory over local rivals Hambrook.

After electing to bowl first Sodbury were soon on top with three early wickets, all picked up by Jamie Wakefield who finished with the impressive figures of nine overs, five maidens, three wickets for just eight runs.

At 19-3 Hambrook were in real trouble and only a fourth wicket stand of 24 spared the visitors from a humiliating total.

However, the introduction of Jon Toghill and Jamie Rendell turned the game once more in Sodbury’s favour as Toghill claimed 3-21 and Rendell 3-14 to leave Hambrook all out for just 70.

Sodbury needed a steady start but were reduced to 20-3 and their nerves were starting to show.

However Craig Scully’s 25 steadied those nerves along with Andy Neal (12) and it was then left for skipper Jamie Rendell to hit the winning runs as he finished on 21 not out.

Bristol & North Somerset 2nd XI Hambrook (130-9) lost to Chipping Sodbury by one wicket

For the fourth week in a row, Sodbury won by the smallest of margins, this time sneaking home by just one wicket.

Sodbury decided to bowl first and restricted the hosts to 130-9. Pick of the Sodbury bowlers were Mason Poole, who picked up three wickets, and Aid Forrester with 2-23.

Sodbury were given an excellent platform by opening batsmen Paul Crabtree and Lee Walters putting on 50 for the first wicket before Crabtree fell for 24.

This led to a Sodbury collapse with only Nick Wake (11) and Mark Reynolds (10) the other batsmen to make double figures.

With Walters at the crease Sodbury were still well placed but when he was dismissed for a workman like 57, they were in deep trouble.

It was left to the tail again to guide them home with number 11 Craig Dyer hitting a boundary to win the game for Sodbury.
