THORNBURY Golf Centre assistant professional Jason Fallon was casting a keen eye on the Open Championship at Turnberry last week as he battles to join the top stars on the PGA European Tour.
The 25-year-old has recorded two top ten finishes in his first five events as he cuts his teeth on the Jamega Golf Tour, two levels below the main tour.
Fallon has shown steady improvement as he battles his way towards a spot among the top players in the world.
He has finished fifth in both of his last events, playing at Clevedon and Donnington Grove in successive weeks.
“I’m really happy with the way I’ve been playing, I am working very hard to improve my golf and desperate to move up the ladder,” he said.
“For the next two years I’m going to go for it and hopefully progress onto the Europro Tour, the Challenge Tour and then go for my card to get onto the main European Tour.”
Fallon is mixing his tournament golf with studying as he works his way to becoming a fully qualified PGA professional.
He has just finished his second year of a three-year course, combining on the job training at Thornbury Golf Centre with studying at the PGA headquarters at The Belfry, the world-renowned golf complex, which has staged more Ryder Cups than any other venue.
“I’m really enjoying working towards becoming a fully qualified PGA professional, but I’m looking forward to getting it finished,” added Fallon.
“I really enjoy my coaching so while I’m not playing in competitions I’m conducting lessons on the driving range and putting green.”
Mark Readman, Thornbury Golf Centre general manager, said: “We’re all extremely excited about Jason’s tour career, he’s been playing extremely well.
“Everyone at Thornbury, staff and golfers alike, are 100 per cent behind him and hoping to see him one day playing alongside the likes of Paul Casey, Sergio Garcia and even Tiger Woods.”
