YATE rider Matt Andrew overcame mechanical problems to enjoy a good weekend in his first race at Brands Hatch in the Post Classic 125 Piston port Championship.
Andrew lined up in 32nd place in race one and fought his way through to a 12th place finish, and in race two he started 28th and finished 13th on Saturday.
His motorcross barrel and gearbox was making him slower than the rest, and on several occasions he would pass four or five bikes in the corners, only to be passed again down the straights.
After his team, tried a re-gearing for him, Sunday’s racing proved very different.
After starting in 26th place in race three, Andrew had a terrible start and dropped to 30th position overall.
By lap 5 he passed all the tailend bikes, crossed a huge gap, caught a pack of seven MT’s and RS’s, and passed them all to finish in a great eighth place.
Race four saw a race long battle with Norman Beckett and Robin Lamb, and the three of them crossed the line within 0.9 seconds of each other, with Andrew finishing 9th.
Andrew’s next race is in Knockhill, Scotland on the Bank Holiday weekend in August.
