YATE TOWN ended their pre-season campaign with a 5-0 defeat against Bath City on Monday.
In Yate’s only home friendly and their last before the campaign begins, the Conference South side’s superiority was evident as they controlled the game.
While there is no shame in losing to a club two divisions higher, Yate go into the Zamaretto Southern & West division season now just nine days away, with no wins behind them in pre-season and ten goals conceded in five games - eight coming in the last two.
It took just over a minute for Bath to open the scoring as Darren Edwards rounded goalkeeper Stuart Wood before pulling it back for former Mangotsfield striker Aaron Cornwall to smash home.
The visitors doubled the lead when Lewis Hogg’s floated free-kick was easily headed home by defender Chris Holland.
Hogg scored after the break following Mark Badman’s assist and added another with a header from Sido Jombati’s cross Tom Piotrowski added Bath’s fifth in injury time, tapping home after Edwards’ shot had hit the post.
Yate manager Dave Mogg is hoping to build a good relationship with his former club Bath City, as well as Gloucester City, to bring in loan players this term and has already brought in defender Callum Stewart from Twerton Park.
