DAVID STOKES and co-driver Guy Weaver finished an excellent fourth overall and victorious in the Post Historic category on last weekends Harry Flatters Rally.

The two-day event, held on the Epynt Military Ranges, was sadly marred by the tragic death of a spectator.

Saturday nights opening stages were an identical ten-mile stage done twice. Dursley’s Stokes was soon into his stride, immediately taking the lead in the Post Historic category. Day two saw Stokes setting consistent top three stage times behind rally leader Mark Solloway and Gwyndaf Evans and increasing the lead over his rivals. His only real moment came on stage eight. When flat out in fifth gear the throttle stuck open causing concern inside the car. Although they dropped 30 seconds, their victory in Post Historic was never in doubt and they arrived back at the Brecon finish well pleased with their victory to boost their Championship aspirations. The next round of the series sees crews heading for Belgium for the tour of Flanders.

“We are pleased with the result but events of today put things into perspective. I speak for everybody here, that our thoughts are with the family and friends of the spectator who lost his life,” said Weaver.
