FORMER Forest Green captain Lee Fowler returns to the New Lawn on Saturday, insisting: " I could have still been playing for Forest Green."
Fowler, 25, former Welsh under-21 international agreed a two-year deal to sign for Mark Cooper’s Kettering Town during the close season.
Fowler said: "If I was offered a contract I would have stayed at Forest Green. It will be strange going back and playing against my old mates, but I will certainly be coming to win."
Fowler was one of Rovers’ most impressive performers last term, becoming a firm favourite with the New Lawn faithful, and he is hoping the fans will give him a warm reception.
He said: "I hope the fans give me a decent reception - I always tried my best for them and the club and would like to return one day."
Fowler was looking forward to facing his brother Mike, but his leg injury has scuppered the chance for the brothers to lock horns.
Fowler added: "I am gutted for Mike and Forest Green."
