BERKELEY football star Christian Ribeiro has joined Stockport County on a month’s loan from Bristol City.
The 19-year-old defender was out for almost a year after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament on his first team debut for City against Peterborough in the Carling Cup in August 2008 and his only start since, in the same competition against Carlisle United earlier this season.
Despite struggling to break into the Championship side, Ribeiro has been a key part of the Wales under-21s side and scored in their 2-1 victory over Italy to earn his first call-up to John Toshack’s senior squad.
Ribeiro is in Stockport’s squad for today’s League One clash against Exeter City.
City manager Gary Johnson told the club’s official website: "Christian was out for a long time with his knee injury and he's done well on his return so far.
"He's looked very confident playing for Wales under-21s, with whom he has plenty of games under his belt. However, this move will now allow him to get some league games and gain some league confidence.
"This is a good move for him and a good one for Stockport. Gary Ablett is their manager and he was an excellent full back for Liverpool in his day, so Ribs will learn a lot.
"A couple of other clubs were interested but Ribs wanted to go to Stockport. He knows a few lads there already, and they are a good footballing team with plenty of youngsters.
"It's only for one month initially and we'll keep a close eye on how he fares during his time there."
